Allure Beauty Box Review February 2016

I really enjoy my Allure boxes. I look forward to them every month, partly because they take so long to get here, and partly because I’m always interested to see what brands will be included. If I had to choose a box based on brand inclusions alone, I would pick Allure as having the best.

The Cost: $15/month

What You Get: Five or more deluxe-size beauty samples from a curated mix of skin, hair, and makeup products as well as fragrance.

Bulgari Omnia Praiba- This is a super adorable perfume mini! The Omnia Paraiba is a floral-citrus fragrance with orange, gardenia, passionflower and vetiver notes. Everything except the vetiver sounds fantastic. Something about vetiver gives me headaches so Im SUPER bummed I can’t use this. Seriously. So cute. I will warn you it’s nearly impossible to get open (I never managed it) but they include directions in the box on how to do it. They probably shouldn’t have made it so hard to open, especially with a bottle that has no spray cap. It’ll spill all over if you’re not careful.

Hello Breath Spray in Supermint- Darn! I was hoping for the pink or green one but this will do just as well. I’m taking it on the plane with me. Thirteen hours is a loooong time and a minty fresh breath spray will be nice to have.
Value: $4

Skinfix Ultra Rich Hand Cream- Coconut and sunflower oils along with aloe to moisturize dry, cracked hands. Mine aren’t that bad but they do need some moisturization every once in awhile. This is a perfect size to keep in the small bag I’m taking with me to Ireland, too. The nice thing is that it uses petrolatum which is awesome for moisture protection. It’s also pretty “no frills” with no scent and a thick consistency. This hand cream means business.

Pur-lisse Daily Lip Nourisher- This uses mango seed butter, shea butter and jojoba oil to keep your lips soft and happy. Since my lips have some serious chap going on, I’m going to use this. It’s pretty thick and goes on kinda gooey. It’s not sticky at all and smells pretty good like oranges. If I like it enough, I may take it on the plane, too. I have a feeling it may not be moisturizing enough. I find that petrolatum seem to help the best. But this is paraben, mineral oil and phthalate free for those who are looking for just the thing.
Value: $16

Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Wash and Rinse- For a really long time I moaned about getting too much haircare and now since I fried my hair with bleach and dye, I’m more forgiving, especially when it comes to conditioners. This is a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that smell fresh and citrusy. These bottles are kind of a weird shape, hopefully I can get all the goodness out.

Lancome Visionnaire Nuit Beauty Sleep Perfector Advanced Multi-Correcting Gel-in-Oil- Holy crap, what a long name!! This has a couple oils plus glycerin to keep your face moisturized. It also has alcohol which I never like seeing in a facial moisturizer. It smells pretty good. It’s comes out looking like a gel (I’d call it a serum) and smooths on like an oil. It takes some massaging but once it’s rubbed in, my skin went super smooth.

VERDICT: While I’m not fond of the perfume (or really getting perfume at all in a sub), the rest of the box was very timely for me. I can use most everything for my upcoming trip and I’m especially glad to have the breath spray. I think that’s fun! Now, I might now be as excited if it were Listerine or something but this thing is cute! I used the Skinfix over the weekend while we were in Portland and it kept my hands soft even though we were out in the cold and rain walking a lot.

If you would like to sign up for Allure Beauty Box, you can do that here. You may begin with this box unless they’re sold out, then you’ll begin with March.

What do you think of Allure Beauty Box compared to Birchbox or Ipsy?
