Chococurb is the chocolate lovers dream subscription. You’ll receive a box of quality chocolates from around the world every single month. It’s a great way to get a taste of a variety of chocolates and all the tasty bits it can be combined with.
This review is for the Chococurb Mini. Last month my chocolate arrived melted but still delicous. If you ever get a chance to try the Theo Limited Edition Lemon Milk Chocolate bar, grab it immediately. Once it solidified, it was unbelievably good. I did not think it would be as good as it was.
This month, in order to combat the heat, the box was shipped inside a large styrofoam container with ice packs inside. I’m not sure if this is the best solution but it did keep my chocolate from melting. The ice packs were melted but my chocolate was fine. I think the best part about it was that the box was so big it wouldn’t fit into my mailbox. Since the mailbox is ten thousand degrees, I don’t think anything could have saved it.
The Cost: $20/month
What You Get: Mini- An assortment of 3 specialty chocolates, Regular- An assortment of 5 to 7 chocolates or chocolate related items. These items can come from small, local chocolatiers to more established, national brands.
Willie’s Cacao Milk of the Gods- This is a single estate milk chocolate with cacao from the Hacienda San Augustine estate near the Rio Caribe, cacao butter from Barlovento, sugar cane from Guadeloupe and British milk. It’s touted as silky smooth with perfect balance. I’m not a fan of milk chocolate but my mother loves it. We’ve had a great time taste testing the goodies that Chococurb sends.
Ethereal Confections Inclusion- This is so good I had to force myself to wrap it up and put it away. It’s such a perfect mix of crunchy, chocolate and nuttiness it’s hard not to want “just one more bite.” Caramel almonds, cacao nibs and sea salt decorate the underside of this bar. They’re firmly tucked in so there’s now random nuts falling in your lap which I appreciate. It’s 66% cacao so it’s dark enough for me to want to hoard it so no one else gets any. Heh.
Dick Taylor Craft Chocolate in Maple Coconut- This is one of the most beautiful chocolate bars I’ve seen. It’s slim and gorgeously molded. This chocolate starts as a bean in the Dick Taylor factory in California. The final product? Glorious! This is made with shredded coconut caramelized with maple syrup and sea salt paired with 72% Belize chocolate. Dark and delicious with just a hint of sweetness from the maple coconut. The coconut is mild and I would love it if it were stronger but the whole bar is undeniably irresistible.
VERDICT: There is no denying that the chocolate Chococurb sends is delicious. It absolutely is. It’s also creative and I love being able to try things from smaller chocolatiers that I normally wouldn’t encounter. The chocolate this month was unique and different and made all my tastebuds happy. This is not a big value box, the worth of the box usually comes out at the price paid. The opportunity to try such amazing chocolate, though… That’s gotta count for something. 🙂 I should say that if you live in a really hot area, you may want to hold off. Unless you don’t mind the possiblity of melted chocolate. It may hurt the look of the chocolate but it will still be quite tasty. Otherwise, once the cool weather comes back, sign up and enjoy a slice of pure heaven when your box arrives.
