You’ll recieve all your goodies in a cute cotton drawstring pouch. The artwork has changed every time, too, so they’re all different. One thing that’s always included that I never use is a card for 50 Beauty Insider points. You can only use it in store and I rarely hit up a brick and mortar.
The color scheme was silver with a pop of green. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a monotone box before. That might be why I noticed it right off the bat. It doesn’t matter, of course, because the products are fun!
The Cost: $10/month
What You Get: A collection of five deluxe samples plus a fragrance in a cute bag, delivered monthly. Plus a Play!Pass for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase in store.
Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in Love Spell– This is a shiny, somewhat sheer bubblegum pink lipstick. I would use it as a topcoat to something else brighter and possibly purple. I wonder who makes Sephora’s makeup. I’m not impressed with this one.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper– The Kat Von D tattoo liner is the best selling eye liner at Sephora. I’ve never tried it but I’m thrilled they’ve included something so popular. Plus, I’ve been loving liquid eyeliner since I first tried it last year (yeah, I’m behind the times). Trooper is a satin black but they also have a brown version.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel– I love brow gel. I don’t know how I lived without it before. No more crazy brows half way through the day. I’ve been using Chella because it’s what I started with but I’m definitely going to move on to this. Because… Anastasia, of course.
Dr. Jart+ WaterDrop Hydrating Moisturizer– I’m going to try not to rave about this too much but I will say that you should try it. Do not swap it or give it away– try it! If anything, it’s an interesting texture. It starts as a light gel but turns to watery droplets when it hits your skin. In kbeauty it’s called a gel cream. It’s silicone based with hyaluronic acid, some peptides and arbutin as a brightener.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Protector– Whaaaaat does that even mean?! Day Night Cap Overnight Protector… Okay, so you work this into your hair from root to tip before you go to bed. Then in the morning you wash your hair and it’s supposed to be amazing for an entire week. I wonder if it’s safe to use with direct dye hair… I’ve been using Overtone (in pastel purple and silver) but it makes my hair feel greasy really quickly.
Tory Burch Jolie Fleur Verte– There is a perfume in every box. I wish there wasn’t because I don’t like getting fragrance but whatevs. Everything else is so good I don’t care. This is a floral blend of lily of the valley, jasmine, neroli, sandalwood and musk. Meh. Not my style.
VERDICT: Well, I have to admit that when my Birchbox subscription is up I won’t be renewing because Sephora has been so much better on so many levels. Without the points program, there’s no longer an incentive to stay and I find I don’t use the samples as much as I have been with Sephora. This box was great for me. Definitely worth my $10 for SURE!
If you would like to subscribe to Play! by Sephora, you can do that here. Subscriptions are CURRENTLY open. That doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way so get in while the getting is good. Seriously. You must subscribe by September 30th to get the October box.
Do you subscribe to both Sephora and Birchbox or Ipsy? Which would you keep if you could only get one?
